South Orange, NJ

Property Overview
Nestled in the heart of South Orange, this grand Colonial home, built in 1917, captivated us with its timeless charm and character. Sitting on a generous 0.31-acre lot, the six-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath property offered ample room for family living, entertaining, and relaxing. Its classic features and inviting layout, combined with its proximity to parks, schools, and vibrant dining and entertainment options, made it an incredible opportunity to restore and enhance its historic beauty.

Project Approach
When we took on this renovation, our goal was to honor the home’s original Colonial style while updating it to meet the needs of modern living. We started by carefully restoring the original hardwood floors, bringing back their warmth and elegance to every room. The living room fireplace became a centerpiece, updated to create a cozy and inviting focal point that complements the home’s historic charm.

On the main level, we enhanced the spacious living room, formal dining room, kitchen, and office with finishes and fixtures that respected the home’s historical appeal while adding modern functionality. In the bathrooms, we preserved vintage details like the clawfoot tub while incorporating contemporary amenities to elevate comfort and usability.

The kitchen retained its classic eat-in design, and we made functional updates to seamlessly blend charm and convenience. Additionally, we upgraded the electrical and plumbing systems, ensuring the home is as efficient and safe as it is beautiful, without losing its original character.

Results
The transformation of this Colonial home is a perfect example of how we merge historical integrity with contemporary living. We preserved the architectural details, like the vaulted beam ceilings and vintage soaking tub, while incorporating practical updates that enhance everyday life. The open and enclosed porches were revitalized to offer inviting outdoor spaces, and the fenced yard and detached garage add both privacy and functionality.

This project was more than a renovation—it was a chance to breathe new life into a home with a rich history. We’re proud to have created a space that balances vintage charm with modern conveniences, ready for its next owners to make their own cherished memories.
